NEWFOUNDLAND – LAST DAY IN TWILLINGATE.
Day 85 – It rained last night and a little today. Cloudy most of the day, it barely got out of the 40’s and with the light wind, it made it feel colder. The high today was 52 degrees; it was 48 degrees when we got up this morning.
We just stayed inside most of the day. We’ve already seen most of the area anyway. Tomorrow we are leaving for a ferry ride to Fogo Island, and we’ll be staying there for four nights. We sure hope the weather is good there! Since we’ll need to be up and out earlier than usual on a travel day, we did some things to get ready to leave today and basically relaxed with the girls.
There is a family camping near us. They have a little boy and a little girl and two cats which stay outside on leashes, the cats, not the children, ho ho. This prompted Rob to mention to the kids that we have four cats. There was a knock on our door & the kids came over to see if they could visit our cats. We said, sure, and got permission from the parents for the kids to come inside. The girls kept the panic down to a minimum and Pixie even let the kids pet her. We were proud of them; they are not used to kids at all, nor are they comfortable around strangers. And that was the big highlight of the day.
Peyton’s Woods RV Park & Campground: 50-60 Back Harbour Rd, Twillingate, Newfoundland, Canada; phone (709) 884-2000 or (709) 884-9388; e-mail annieb1959@outlook.com; website www.peytonswoods.com. Open May 24 to October 15. Independent campground conveniently located in the middle of Twillingate near everything that attracts the tourists, but not near the busy main highway and within a short walk to the bay where (in season), whales & icebergs can be easily seen. There are 64 campsites and they can accommodate the largest of RV’s (and often do). There are tent sites also; most of the campsites have hook-ups, some have full hook-ups including sewer. There is a dump station on site. Some of the campsites are fully out in the open; some are somewhat private. Customer service was good – they even rearranged some planned site occupation so they could accommodate us for a week straight without us having to change campsites in the middle of the week. They have restrooms, showers, a food truck, and laundry facilities. We had site #46 and it was surrounded by trees, making it one of the more private campsites. Cost was $30 per night (Canadian currency). We would stay here again.
