NEWFOUNDLAND – ENGLEE IN THE SUN.

Day 40 – It rained hard last night. This morning there were lovely, billowy white clouds and some sun & 45 degrees with little wind. The forecast was for increasing clouds & maybe more rain this afternoon, so we headed out at 10 a.m. to take some pictures.

First we went into Roddickton to get some gas in the Honda & to pick up our tank of propane. We returned to the RV and hooked up the tank, stopping on the way back for a picture of Roddickton in the sun for a change. I’d previously seen an old building & two old boats in Bide Arm that I wanted to take a look at again, so we stopped there for pictures, too.

We drove to Englee, south of the campground. It is a small fishing town situated on Canada Bay where Route 433 ends. We first visited Englee soon after when we arrived in this area but it was foggy & very overcast. Today, just as we got to the top of the hill and started going down to the Bay, we spotted the beautiful Iceberg. We went to the Barr’d Island Trail, which Rob didn’t take last time, it was so foggy, and Rob climbed the hill while I stayed below & hobbled around with my cane and camera. It was really pretty out.

When Rob came back, we chatted for a little while with a charming Swiss couple who were also traveling around Newfoundland. They had a Class C RV which they have traveled in for 12 years since they retired. They live in Switzerland & store the vehicle in Canada. They spend most of each year driving around the U.S. & Canada, just hopping on a plane & flying to where the RV is stored, then hitting the road. Then we drove to a different part of Englee to get other perspectives of the large Iceberg.

On two occasions, we had conversations with residents of Englee, who approached us to talk about the Iceberg, since we were obviously taking pictures of it. They said that this one just arrived this morning, and they get lots of them coming down from Greenland. One of them was the person who recommended that Rob climb the Barr’d Island Trail to get the best viewpoint. We have found Canadians to be extremely nice and welcoming to us. We wish it was easier to become a resident of Canada, but there are many requirements that must be met to do so. Single Payer Insurance For All. That would be nice.

We went back to the RV for a late lunch. It was clouding up, no more sun for us today. The high was 55 degrees (definitely warming up some and no more 30’s at night anymore?); tomorrow thru Saturday look similar. While we’re here waiting for our mail to arrive via Canadian Pony Express, we’ll probably go back to our favorite places again while the sun is out. We don’t know when we’re going to leave nor where we’re going next. We keep changing our minds. We’ll probably discuss it over beer, wine, and fish tacos tonight.

Addendum:  Well, you never know…..

I finished the above post late this afternoon. I let Rob know I was done, that he could add the pictures he’d diligently prepared, and to post at any time – but maybe wait, in case something else happened. (Like, what is going to happen….)

We were just finishing dinner, it was 6:30 p.m.  There was a knock on the door to the RV. Who could that be?  It was the supervisor of the Town Clerk, the woman Rob had dealt with yesterday when renewing our campsite reservations for another four nights. She just stopped by to make sure we knew about the Iceberg in Englee.  Now why wouldn’t we want to move to Canada? Isn’t that just the nicest thing?!
