TRAVEL DAY

Day 67 – The low last night was 58 degrees and it was overcast when we got up. Soon thereafter it started raining. The rain continued on and off throughout the day, and it was definitely cooler today.

We didn’t rush out this morning since we only traveling a couple of hours to reach our next campground. We departed at 11:25 a.m. after dumping tanks. It was 67 degrees and raining. We got back on the TCH-1 driving through the rest of Terra Nova National Park. Then we turned off and headed northeast on Route 230 to the Bonavista Peninsula. This is one of the more popular areas with plenty of towns along the coast on both sides of the peninsula. As we approach the large city of St. John’s on the east coast of Newfoundland, even when going out to the end of peninsulas, you have difficulty finding isolation. This particular area is a very popular tourist destination. It continued to rain; still the scenery was beautiful, with lots of trees and the view from the tops of the rolling hills to the bay and lakes below. We didn’t take very many pictures due to the rain and clouds.

Eventually we turned off on Route 236 heading towards our campground, Lockston Path Provincial Park, on a rough dirt road. The girls weren’t thrilled, but we were almost at our destination. We arrived at the Provincial Park at 1:15 p.m. It was 59 degrees and raining. We checked in and found our campsite, #27. We did have water hook-ups at the site but no electric or sewer hook-ups. There was a sign on the water connection that we needed to boil the water. This didn’t mean there was a problem with the water, just that it hadn’t been treated with chlorine. It was a decent campsite with some wildflowers and a view of the stream right outside the front of the RV.

We let the kitties out and we all had a late lunch. Then we unpacked and set up camp. It’s supposed to be down in the 40’s tonight. We’re back near the Ocean again. As of 5 p.m. it had stopped raining and was cool and breezy. We got our sweatshirts back out.
