HEADING NORTH.

TRAVEL DAY

From: Barachois Pond Provincial Park, Stephenville Crossing, NL.

To:Deer Lake Municipal RV Park, Deer Lake, NL.

Day 35 – It was 34 degrees when Rob got up this morning; I slept in. We took our time packing up. We didn’t have any hook-ups at this campground, so we had to dump our tanks at a dump station near the exit to the Park. After dumping, we departed at 11:05 a.m. It was 59 degrees and sunny – another beautiful day.

The drive was fairly short, approximately 1-½ hours. There was more traffic than there has been, probably because we went through the large city of Corner Brook. Also, there were lots of trucks on the road. We liked Corner Brook when we were here before. We became familiar with the City when we had to make several trips there regarding new tires for the Honda. We found the grocery store to be large and well-stocked. The Newfoundland liquor store there also had a decent selection of beer and wine. American beer & wine are a little hard to find in NL. Anyway, the drive was short, but scenic. Since we’re heading further north now, the mountains are bigger, there is more snow on them, and the freshwater Lakes are plentiful and a deep blue.

Our destination is Deer Lake Municipal RV Park. We’ve never camped here before, but we did see this campground when we were here last time and wanted to give it a try. We arrived at 12:30 p.m. It was 62 degrees and sunny with a breeze. The campground just opened for the season a couple of days ago. We got a campsite right by the Lake, site #13. We’ll have electric and water hook-ups. There is a dump station in town which we can use when we depart. We’ll be here three days.

We have an excellent cell phone/internet signal. We made lunch while the girls settled in, loving the sun on the dashboard. Then after lunch we unpacked and settled in. We cooked dinner in advance while it warmed up some more outside. We’d like to sit outside by the Lake this afternoon. Meanwhile, while the Salmon was baking and the Brown Rice was cooking, we worked on getting the blog posts completed from the previous days when we didn’t have a signal.

We did make it outside to sit in our chairs overlooking the Lake. The temperature was 68 degrees. It was very nice. This campground is surely a zoo over the summer but early in the season, like this, it’s good as long as the weather holds out. We can access a weather forecast now that we have a signal. Tomorrow won’t be as sunny and it’ll start raining in the afternoon. The rain is supposed to continue thru Friday. And we leave here Saturday. We’re glad we had these days of beautiful weather!
