RIALTO BEACH.
Day 221 – 43 degrees this morning, but NOT raining. Promising. There were heavy clouds that looked threatening all morning. Meanwhile, at the campground people were leaving their campsites to make room for those who’d reserved for the weekend. A new batch of campers will come in beginning this afternoon. We went out sightseeing after lunch.
Rialto Beach is one of the places recommended by the internet to see in this area. Evidently sunset pictures from there are amazing. To check out the area, we drove there this afternoon, east and north of the campground, stopping on the way there to drive through Olympic National Park’s Mora Campground. Heavily forested, quiet, and private, it was a campground we’ll make a note of in case we came back in the future. At the end of the road, the parking lot for the beach was almost full. We made the short hike to Rialto Beach. It was very nice, busy, but scenic with some big waves coming in. The beach was lined with the remnants of large trees that had been carried in during the winter storms.
The afternoon was sunny and the high today was 57 degrees. A steady stream of campers came in and found their sites. It will definitely be busy this weekend. We made a Thai Peanut Sauce and served it with Scallops & Shrimp over Linguini. We’ll have that for a couple of nights before we’ll need to cook again.
