PLANS CHANGE.
Day 39 – 28 degrees this morning and the hardy hunters had already left – the Park is full of trailers; the trucks are gone. We hung around, catching up on a few things, until it warmed up some, then headed off to Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.
It was a nice drive, a little more than 30 minutes, to the NWR. We stopped at the Visitor’s Center for a map of the Refuge. Well, plans do change – the Refuge was closed to uses other than hunting only. It will reopen Monday. Darn. So we drove back to the RV. On the way back, we saw a very large amount of ducks and waterfowl by the water areas. We missed a good opportunity. Lesson learned: check before you visit.
Back at the RV we had lunch, napped, read our books, and checked the next three Parks and Wildlife Refuges we intend to visit for their hunting schedules. The high today was 44 degrees, no wind, sunny. We’ll be leaving tomorrow for one of our favorite places, Wappopello State Park and Mingo National Wildlife Refuge.
