TREES AND CAKE.

Day 34 – Last night’s thunderstorms brought the loudest thunder we’ve ever heard. Wow! It rained very hard and the wind was strong. But this morning it was nice & cool again. We hung around for our coffee/tea time, then went into Colebrook, the closest town, and ran some errands: groceries, mostly produce, refilling the propane container, picking up our mail at the post office, and checking e-mail, phone messages, & posting the blog. It was muddy out; we did not see any moose. Yet.

We took a dirt road into Colebrook, a well-maintained gravel road. There were 360 degree views – really beautiful. Then we came up on rows of recently-downed trees and saw a road crew with several trucks working to clean up the mess. These trees, all in a row, came down with last night’s storm. BIG, healthy old trees! We wondered how high the winds got and felt lucky they didn’t come down in the campground. We asked one of the crew if there had been a tornado. He said, he didn’t think so. “Must’ve been one of those thing-a-ma-jiggies, a Micro Burst”. On the way back from Colebrook, we stopped to take a few pictures. They really didn’t do it justice: the way we saw it, it was rather shocking. We were thinking, as big & old as these trees are and with all the weather they have had in their lifetimes, what did it take to knock them down, to just split the bark from the center of the trees? Back at the RV, we unpacked & put up the groceries, and Rob connected the propane back up. We opened our mail & packages and made lunch. Rob was pleased that all the items he ordered to replace the RV rear-view camera had arrived. After lunch, we mixed up a cake and got it into the oven to bake. Damn, it smells good in here! Rob went outside to replace the camera. The girls played in the box which the mail came in; we’d put it on the dashboard, the place where kitties have lots of fun.

People have asked, how do we deal with our mail when we’re on the road for an extended period of time? Currently, our mail is forwarded by our NY post office to our mail forwarding address in Florida. Only first class mail, which is nice – NO junk mail, NO flyers. The mail forwarding service is a company that specializes particularly in mail services for travelers. We’d heard about them from other campers. We get an e-mail from them every time we receive a piece of mail. We can click on it to see a scan of the envelope. Then we know how important it is. If we need more information, they will open the mail, and scan it in for us and e-mail to us. If we want to have our mail sent to us anywhere, at anytime, we go online and schedule a delivery, after checking with the local post office where we will be camping and making sure they accept general delivery. They do a great job. In four years we’ve never had any complaints.

It rained intermittently all day and never reached 60 degrees. Rob’s RV rear-camera replacement was successful, and our cake finished baking. We made cream cheese frosting & VOILA. Can’t wait until after dinner (if we can stand to wait that long)! It may be a small kitchen, but it works.

Mmmmmm Guinness Chocolate Cake!!

We played Yahtzee and Uno, while playing the Eurythmics followed by Stevie Ray Vaughn on the stereo and having our wine & beer. I lost most games. The rain had stopped. The wind had died down. After dinner, the cake was delicious.

I’m catching up on reading and was curious about your mail, thanks for the explanation. Now I want some guinness chocolate cake! Kitties are cute in the box and I’m enjoying all the pictures.
