OINK, OINK.

Day 4 – We just finished dinner, more about that later, but I just sat down to work on today’s blog entry. Rob has taken his trusty camera for a walk. There was the standard moo-ing and snorts coming from the cows as they were led back to the barn from their day in the field. But there was also this strange “oink oink” in a baby voice coming from the campsite next door. The site next to us is one campsite away from the trail where the cows were being led home. I couldn’t figure it out. Baby piglets were being brought in to the barn with the cows? Wouldn’t they get stepped on? So many serious thing to worry about!

It turned out that the man and his dog camping in the site next to us were being visited by his mother who, it appears, is very attached to the dog. The man gave his dog some food and the mother was talking baby-talk (like grandmothers do) to the dog, saying “oink oink”. All is well. The piglets are not being trampled by the cows. Phew!

We had a restful evening last night. This morning when Rob got up (before me, as usual), he made his coffee and took his chair and camera outside. The weather was warm & humid. When I got up, I looked outside and saw him taking pictures of something on the ground – typical! I got ready for my shower and looked outside again, in time to see him hurrying by the RV, tripod over shoulder, with a determined look on his face – stalking something. As the morning went on, clouds were increasing along with the heat & humidity. There was a nice breeze though, so it was still comfortable. Around 11 a.m. we left to get lunch from Cindy’s, same place as yesterday, and we are creatures of habit. As we walked out of the RV, we looked back and Java said, “You’re leaving?”

We stopped for gas in the Honda, (we’ve seen no sign yet of the gasoline shortage caused by the hack of Colonial Pipeline, thank goodness). At Cindy’s we got lunch & brought it back to the RV – Rob got a Lobster Roll & I got a Crab Roll. We noticed it was much less crowded in Freeport and lots of campers were checking out of the campground. The Sunday rush home for the upcoming work week.

Our lunch was great. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing in the RV, reading books, playing with the computers, as a weather front went thru. Dark clouds, wind, a little bit of rain (it looked like it was going to be much more rain than that!). Then the wind shifted, the clouds floated by, the humidity disappeared, and the temperatures dropped 10 degrees. With the wind shift came an awful odor since our windows were open – we were downwind of the barn. Goodness!

For dinner we went back to the Broad Arrow Tavern at the Harraseeket Inn for take-out. Got tonight’s dinner and dinner for tomorrow night since tomorrow will be a traveling day. Rob had the Lobster Mac n’ Cheese; he helped me with a Spinach-Artichoke Dip, and I had the Lobster Stew & a small caesar salad. Tomorrow we’re off to a favorite campground and the #1 campsite there, right on the water, kayaking from the campsite. This site is so hard to get, and we were lucky enough to snag it for 3 nights early in the week. We’ll have a chance to try out the new battery system as we will be dry camping (camping without hook-ups).

Thank you very much to all who are taking the time to comment on the blog; it is so nice to “see” you all once again! And to those who have written about the snake that adopted our doorbell in NY, it’s been determined that it was a young hatchling: a Black Rat Snake and not poisonous.
