MOO.

Day 3 – We were up at 6 a.m. this morning; 51 degrees & cloudy.  Today we traveled to Freeport, Maine.  We had a relaxing morning, since our check-in time at the next campground wasn’t until 1 p.m.  We went to the local Post Office in Bernardston to mail another bill; we had a survey done at the house in NY in order to get a variance for a deck to be built off our bedroom.  We had been notified that the final payment was due on the work.  Then we packed up, shuffled the girls (without a single complaint) into the bedroom for travel, and departed Traveler’s Woods Campground at 9:50 a.m.

We took Route 2 east to I-495 north, then I-95 north, crossing into New Hampshire, then Maine.

We’re almost there!!!!

Ahhhhh, back in Maine!

Had lunch & gave the kitties a break at a rest stop, then back on I-95 north to the Falmouth Spur, I-295 north, then Exit 20 into Freeport.  Traffic was not heavy on any of the roads.  In fact, we’ve never seen Main Street & LL Bean so empty!  We arrived at our campground, Wolfe’s Neck Oceanfront Camping, at 2:05 p.m.  Due to COVID rules, we were able to skip the in-person check-in & had already done that by computer.  We went directly to Site #106, a very nice, private campsite overlooking one of the farm’s many fields and the water of the Bay beyond.  It was 64 degrees, partly cloudy & breezy.

We had camped here many times & always enjoy it here.  Wolfe’s Neck Campground is close to Freeport, but far enough away to completely avoid any city hustle & bustle.  Formerly Recompense Shores Campground, it is on the site of the Wolfe’s Neck Farm which grows organic fruit & vegetables and has a large, new dairy cow barn, all situated on a peninsula with water on three sides.  Kayaking & bicycling are favorite activities here; also, the Farm offers classes on organic farming, tours of the farm, daily milking demonstrations, and various other activities (for instance, tomorrow they are having a “Salamander Walk”).

After setting up camp, we sat outside in the sun – a gorgeous day – and enjoyed the scenery.  When we were gathering the chairs & books to go outside, we kept hearing loud, strange bellows from outside the RV.  The cats were gathered on the dashboard, all excited about the very large, vocal cows in the field in front of the RV.  After the cows had kicked up their heels and had enough to eat, they meandered over to a cowpath two campsites from us & made an orderly procession back to the barn.

We eventually headed back to the chairs with a glass of wine and a class of beer.  A fun afternoon at the Farm.  We went to bed early again.  Oddly enough, the cats appear to be more settled & content in the RV than at home.
