Day 25 – The bread, loaf 3, looks good but feels heavier & more solid than what we’ve made in the past. That could be good, or it could be bad. We’ll know when we have our sandwiches for lunch whether the consistency & flavor make the grade. We just started the kneading process on another loaf, one we’ve never made before, because we ran out of our garlic bread, wanted some for tonight’s spaghetti, and won’t be going grocery shopping until tomorrow. We’re trying the recipe for an Italian Herb Bread, however we’re doing the first part in the breadmaker & the actual baking in the oven. That way we’re hoping to be able to shape it like a long loaf rather than have it come out the size the breadmaker dictates, i.e., a sandwich loaf. An experiment; we have become baking fools.
Rob woke up at 5:30 in the morning & discovered cold air was blowing throughout the RV. It was 48 degrees inside. We’d run out of propane in our add-on tank, so he had to go outside to switch to the RV’s internal tank. BRRRR! So today we’ll be going into town to refill the external tank.
It was 38 degrees last night, 40 degrees at 8 a.m. when we got up. Cloudy & overcast, it’s supposed to rain later and be windy today, continuing both until tomorrow night. We’re leaving here the next day.
Fast forward to 6:30 p.m. Our sandwich loaf (#3) of Seed Bread that we made last night was good enough today at lunch. Heavier and denser than previous loaves but okay for sandwiches. Tomorrow when we go grocery shopping, we’ll look for a different whole wheat flour to see if that makes a difference. We can’t think of anything we did differently that would’ve caused the change in our bread.
We went out to get the small external tank filled with propane. Michael’s Seafood must’ve reopened for lunch because the parking lot was full. We’ll try to get there tomorrow just when they open so we can try the infamous seafood chowder. Got the propane tank filled and headed back to the State Park. Very cloudy, 46 degrees, some wind, no rain yet. There’s been a change in the campers, One batch (the weekly people) left and now the weekenders have come in – kids & dogs. Still, the Park is not completely full. Maybe the weather has something to do with it.
Our new loaf of bread turned out well, except that it was rising so fast in the oven that we got worried and decided to reshape it. Big mistake. That let the air out and it flattened. We have to learn to be patient and just leave the bread alone! Anyway, it tasted great, just was a bit flat in appearance. We made garlic bread out of it. Lesson learned – leave the damn bread alone!
We had our Rosemary-Muddled Cocktail tonight, only to use us the rest of the fresh rosemary, not because we needed a cocktail, LOL. It was great & we were tied at the end of two games of Yahtzee. Tomorrow we go grocery shopping and hopefully get to try the seafood chowder at Michael’s. We’ll probably make some Pumpkin Bread, too. Throw in some chocolate chips & some walnuts? Yum!
