Day 62 – Did you ever try to find a large piece of Plexiglass to replace a broken window on Easter Sunday in a small Louisiana town when you’ve just found out your credit card has been compromised and the account is now closed due to credit card fraud?
The trash bag, duct-taped over the gap where the door’s window used to be, has worked out fine thus far, but we’re both worried about how it will fare during our five hour drive today with the wind constantly hitting the RV during the higher-speed travel. We’d hoped to pick up something to replace the window as soon as possible, but as suspected, nothing was open on Easter. We certainly didn’t want to leave the window like this until we got home & could get it replaced. Rob came up with the temporary solution of buying a large sheet of Plexiglass and cutting it down to size. That way we’d continue to get light in while not being a walking advertisement/invitation for theft.
We got a text & e-mail & phone call that our main credit card had been compromised. This, by the way, is the second credit card to be closed due to fraud since we left home on February 14. Things are not looking so rosy right now and we’re feeling discouraged as we pack up to leave for Arkansas.
We left Lakeview Paradise at 8:20 a.m. and it was 71 degrees, cloudy and humid. We stopped several times on the way to our next campground to check the status of our makeshift window repair. It was quite loud when we were driving, flapping when the wind hit it, and due to the high humidity, the duct tape wasn’t holding well. At one point, Rob added another layer of tape, and that helped us to get to our destination with the “window” intact.
We arrived at Merrisach Lake Recreational Area in Tichnor, Arkansas a little after 1 p.m., had lunch and set up the campsite. The drive from Louisiana to Arkansas was nice & scenic despite the noise from the window.
This is one of the nicest campgrounds we’d been to; the sites were spacious and private. It was only about ¼ full, mostly with fishermen. Our site was #D-05; the campground had 5 camping loops and each was different as far as hook-ups, water access or view, wooded sites, sites at the boat launch area, etc. Our loop, Loop D, offered water and electric hook-ups, there was a dump station. Each Loop D site had a covered picnic table & bar-b-que area and was surrounded by trees. Most of the sites had water access and great views. We spent the afternoon sitting outside by the Lake. Swallows were nesting in the eves of the covered patio & we enjoyed watching them rapidly swooping around catching insects. The girls got a kick out of it, too, with their heads plastered to the RV window screens, staring out in drooling fascination. We immediately wished we had more than our two reserved nights here, but we needed to be in the St. Louis, MO area, and later the Louisville, KY area on previously-scheduled dates. We added Arkansas to our map of State’s we’ve camped in.
