Day 49 – We were awakened at 5:30 a.m. by heavy rain, wind, and lots of lightening (76 degrees). We had a tornado watch, not warning, and it wasn’t “imminent” like the last one. It rained on & off thru the morning, then the clouds were gone along with the humidity. Lovely day. We wanted to go to the beach but the path nearest to us was flooded so we drove to the fishing pier which goes out into the Gulf. SO many birds! Rob is having a field day with the camera. There’s an observation tower, too, so in addition to all the birds, we have pictures of the surrounding area. Also, spent some time at the display reading about the history of Grand Isle. I did some research later & yes, those are probably remnants of the BP oil spill on the beach. The oil spill was 42 miles off the Louisiana coast, not far east of here. A local fisherman said in a blog post that fishing in these local waters had resumed Dec. 2014, four years after the spill but his shrimp catch was down by 50%. Considering that fishing (and oil) are obviously what support the people in Southern Louisiana, four years is a really long time to be without your only known way of making money.

We took a short drive into the town, encountered more birds and very few people. Back to the RV, lunch, then we sat outside under the awning. Mockingbirds are building a nest in two places near the campsite and we are constantly amused by their activities. Frogs are making some strange noises, pelicans and various seagulls are flying over. Rob went back down to the beach later in the afternoon for more shots of birds. Speaking of birds, here some of the many pictures he took. End of Week Seven.

Oh my goodness! What amazing pictures!
So glad you folks are okay — we were wondering about you this morning, after the tornadoes and 100 mph winds down that way!

Thanks for thinking about us! We are finally starting to get used to being in tornado watches, but the tornado warnings still make us nervous!

Gorgeous pictures (they even look surreal!) and beautiful birds indeed (so glad the camera was not broken, it would have been sad!): I need to figure out how to make the slideshow FULL screen :-); I assume the “no Tornadoes” time is during the holidays when it’s ultra busy (I liked the fact that it must have been REALLY hard to decide where to park!)…
on another topic, isn’t your “home” library part of the https://mobile.midhudsonlibraries.org/patroninfo ?? (as apparently kindle & apple devices using proprietary software, a lot of the free ebooks might not be possible to download… we are using “androids”)

Thanks for the compliment about the pictures! I don’t know how to make the slideshow full screen. I’m not totally happy with the way it comes out so small also. Something to work on… You’re right, that is our library system, just haven’t had much chance to look into borrowing e-books yet.

Yeah retirement is SO busy for you :-)))… But I see that at least you are still doing an excellent job at everything like in the past!!!! I discovered the scanned mail too… which is good since it seems I kept missing some statements… (probably delivered elsewhere!)
