Sunday August 10 was a day of rest! Yay! Over the next 5 days we made rapid progress toward completing the seemingly never ending projects that needed to be completed before we could actually start raising the timberframe. We are so glad to be almost done with the foundation and site prep!
We went home to NY and spent two weeks taking care of some business. The cats were very excited to be home. What they didn’t realize was that one of the things on the agenda at home was for them to have a visit with the vet!
The 4th of July holiday weekend killed our momentum a bit, but on Monday July 7, Paul came over to help build up a boulder retaining wall on a steeply sloped section of fill. The boulders we used were all pulled out of the ground when excavating for the foundation. Paul picked up boulders using the excavator and placed them where Rob indicated. It’s not finished yet, but it looks pretty good so far!
We got a text on June 24 from Wayne (our building contractor) that Teresa (our excavation contractor) would be showing up on Wednesday June 25 to start excavating our foundation hole. YAAY!! Construction can finally begin!

We last posted May 23 and we were hoping to begin the foundation excavation soon. Well, nothing has happened in the past month! We are enjoying camping in our “House Building” campsite near the head of our driveway where we will be out of the way when construction begins.
Hello Again Friends & Family! It’s been awhile since we posted to the blog. We hope you are all doing well! In 2024 we stuck close to home, not doing much traveling except to go to our land in Maine for about 4 weeks last Fall. In early 2025 we went to Maryland for a few days to visit Vicki’s Step-Mom Gail. It was great to see you Gail!
The blog has been offline for a few weeks as we moved it to a new hosting provider. We were running out of space for all the pictures! We are now back online and can finally publish this post from almost 2 weeks ago. Let us know if you see any strange issues while viewing the blog. Thanks!
We took another sight seeing drive this weekend. This time we drove through some areas of Ulster County that we hadn’t driven through in a long time. Around Thanksgiving it rained at our house and apparently snowed a bit in the Catskills.

We took another sightseeing drive today. What a difference a week makes in the Fall colors! The colors are well past peak now and we can see Winter is on the way.

The Fall colors are peaking at home and we decided to take a break from all the things we have been doing to take a nice long drive West of our house into the Catskills.
Day 181 – It was 49 degrees at 7 a.m. this morning. We departed at 9:45 a.m., 51 degrees, and it was partly cloudy. Little did the girls know that they were going home. They think they’re just going to another campground – would there be trees and birds; would there be ocean; would there would be lots of people?
