REELFOOT NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE.

Day 69 – Okay, so we didn’t float away last night, but it was pretty muddy out this morning. LOTS of birds flitting about, got the girls all excited. It must be mating season; the colors of the birds are much more brilliant than usual. If the sun shines today, we may get some really good pictures. But of course, the birds will need to be still at least for a few seconds.

WHEELER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – Day 1.

Day 66 – At 6:30 this morning it was 41 degrees and sunny. We left for the NWR after driving through the campground to check everything out. There are 3 large loops of campsites; a few are near Lake Wheeler, all of them are in the woods and all but four sites have full hook-ups (water, electric, & sewer). The Refuge was about 45 minutes from the campground. We first drove to the Visitor’s Center. It turned out that it’s closed on Sunday & Monday. There was a gate closed & we couldn’t get in.

GOOD-BYE OKEFENOKEE SWAMP.

Day 63 – We’re heading into new territory today. Gonna try some different (to us) highways, campgrounds & wildlife refuges before eventually ending up at a favorite place that we wanted to revisit – Mingo National Wildlife Refuge. It was 62 degrees out at 7:30 this morning, humid & partly cloudy. We departed Stephen C. Foster State Park at 10:35 a.m. (after dumping tanks) & it was already 72 degrees, cloudy, & quite humid.

THURSDAY, OUR LAST DAY HERE.

Day 62 – After one week at this campsite, we have to leave tomorrow. Someone else gets this campsite.  It was 59 degrees and partly cloudy at 7:30 this morning. Another warming trend begins today. After all our morning chores, we went out to the tent until 1 p.m. It was getting more humid & we went inside for lunch, then chopped our vegetables up for tonight.
