ABOUT WHISTLERS CAMPGROUND IN JASPER NATIONAL PARK: Whistlers Campground is one of three campgrounds that allow RVs in Jasper National Park. It is also the largest campground within Canada with 850 campsites within 60 campground loops. It is conveniently located at the top of the Icefield Parkway and near the entrance to the city of Jasper.
The campground is open from early May to mid October. They claim to have full hook-up campsites; we did not see any when we were there. There is a dump station and fresh drinking water is available. Each site offers a picnic table and a fire-pit. Wood is available for a fee. Other amenities include: flush toilets, showers, a cooking shelter, and interpretive programs. There are trails, and biking on the paved campground roads is popular. There is an outdoor theatre, garbage & recycling receptacles, ample parking, a campground office, and shuttle pick-up is available. The campground is well maintained and staff is on top of things. Wild animals roam the campground (one of the things the staff watches over). We had a huge Bull Elk walk through the campsite across from us.
We had site #15G. We’d be fine with this campsite again. Loop #15 (and a few other loops) have some trees around sites. The rest of the campground is mostly out in the open, but many sites have plenty of room around them and are not too close to their neighbors. Loops 15 and 16 are the only loops that are not within the large circle that includes the other campsites – the main campground road. Generators are allowed between 8 and 10 a.m. and 5 and 7 p.m. Check-in time is 2 p.m. (but this was not strictly enforced) and check-out time is 11 a.m. Maximum length of stay is 14 nights. We paid $304.00 including taxes and fees (Canadian currency) for 10 nights. Reservations are required for all campsites at Whistlers Campground. Reservations in advance are advised! (We originally reserved 10 nights months in advance. Due to a wildfire, park officials closed all three campgrounds and we were required to leave 5 nights early. We will be reimbursed.)
