ABOUT UTE LAKE STATE PARK: We did not receive an informational brochure when we arrived at the Park. This is the information we got from driving around.
There are many different campgrounds here. Off-season (after the end of September), the following campgrounds were open: Yucca (45 sites – water & electric hook-ups); Logan (23 sites – water & electric hook-ups); New Cottonwood (7 sites – no hook-ups); Old Cottonwood (10 sites – no hook-ups); Beaver (5 sites – no hook-ups – sites on the water); Oldham Overlook (4 sites – no hook-ups); and Oldham Circle – (10 sites – no hook-ups). During the off-season, there was water available at spigots at Yucca & the Cottonwoods, and there was a dump station at the entrance of the Park near Yucca. The following campgrounds were closed off-season: Ute Creek, Zia, Eagle Point, Roadrunner, and the Group camping area.
Ute Lake is a huge reservoir. Boating and fishing are quite popular in season. Off-season, campsites with hook-ups are $14.00 per night, and campsites without any hook-ups are $10.00 per night. This was our first time here. There were only two other campsites occupied when we got here. We just drove in, picked up a campsite payment fee envelope, filled out the paperwork, and returned the envelope with our payment to the iron ranger near the entrance. In season, it’s highly likely that reservations would be required. Check-in time is after 4 p.m. (although off-season we got there at 1:40 p.m. and it wasn’t a problem. Check-out time is before 2 p.m. We would stay here again, particularly off season.
Ute Lake State Park is located just west of the small town of Logan, New Mexico, off of Route 54.
