Silverhorn Creek Campground, Banff National Park, Banff, AB

ABOUT SILVERHORN CREEK CAMPGROUND, BANFF NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA: We had no literature about this campground but this is what we learned by staying there. The campground is small with 45 campsites. Some sites are partially wooded, some sites are fairly out in the open. There are no hook-ups. All sites were reserved when we were there (for 4 nights) but some remained empty. Water and a dump station are available 3 km north of the campground at Waterfowl Lakes Campground or if that is not open, they are available in Lake Louise at the main campground (which is a bit of a drive). There are pit toilets, no shower facilities. Because this campground was not in the middle of Banff or Lake Louise, it was quiet. There are huge campgrounds in both those cities. For a quiet stay without amenities, this is the campground to stay in. Generator hours were 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. We would stay here again and drive in to the areas we want to visit, rather than stay at a noisy, busy campground.

Our favorite campsites were #3, #7, #12, #16, #17, #21 and #22 all reservable and no first-come, first-served. Check-in time is after 2 p.m. but people came in as early as 11 a.m. There was no park ranger or campground host on duty at the Park. Check-out time is before 11 a.m. We paid $271.50 for 10 nights, but we only stayed for 4 nights. We left early due to smoke from wildfires.
