ABOUT SANFORD-YAKE CAMPGROUND: We did not receive any informational brochures about this campground, but we’d been here once before and knew what to expect. Ten campsites offer water and electric hook-ups. To stay in one of those sites, it needs to be reserved and paid for online. The remainder of the campsites have no hook-ups and aren’t even numbered. No reservations are necessary; just drive in, pick a site, and set up – there is no camping fee for those non-hookup campsites. Drinking water and a dump station are available near the entrance to the campground.
At Sanford-Yake many campsites have amazing views overlooking the lake and canyons. There are other campgrounds within the National Recreation Area and their views and water accessibility vary. Some have boat launches, some have dump stations, some have restrooms, and some have none of these things. We believe, at this time, Sanford-Yake is the only one that offers campsites with hook-ups. Popular activities at Lake Meredith NRA include fishing, boating, camping, hiking, waterskiing, sailing, sailboarding, swimming, and scuba diving. Tours of the nearby Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument, with talks about the history of the area and the archeological digs are offered by the park rangers. For reservations or more information, see the contact information below.
We really like this campground and will return again. For more information contact: Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, P. O. Box 1460, 419 E. Broadway, Fritch, TX 79036. Phone: (806) 857-3151. www.nps.gov/lamr. www.nps.gov/alfl.
