ABOUT RIVERWALK RV PARK: We’d never stayed at this private campground before, but it was convenient since it was just off Highway 101 in Fortuna. The campground is reasonably close to Arcata Marsh, Humboldt National Wildlife Refuge, Ferndale, Eureka, and Humboldt Botanical Gardens. Fortuna is a decent little town with all the stores you need. The Redwood forest is as close as CA-36 heading east; the Pacific Ocean is as close as the Humboldt NWR drive heading west.
The campground was extremely well-maintained and spotlessly clean. The people working there were professional, helpful, and eager to help. There are 89 RV campsites and a group of nice cabins and some tent camping all placed fairly close together on a triangular-shaped lot that has lots of nice trees and flowering bushes everywhere to make it seem much more than just parking-lot camping. The RV campsites aren’t huge; we barely fit the RV and the car in our site, and the sites are fairly close together. But, there is extra parking available if your car doesn’t fit. Amenities include: full hook-ups, a heated pool and spa, a convenience store, pull-through sites, cable TV, an office, showers, laundry room, restrooms, propane, playground, basketball court, horseshoes, an outdoor kitchen, recreation room, pet walk area, and a dump station. The cost was $100.80 for two nights (this includes 10% Good Sam Club discount). We had site #44. This is a family campground and there are lots of young children here. In addition to the children and the dogs, the park is located near Highway 101 and it is noisy. Although the many nice trees do help to hide that fact, you can still hear the traffic. Check-in time is after 1 p.m. Check-out time is 11 a.m. For a short one or two-day visit, we would stay here again. NOTE: Reservations should be made in advance. The campground was almost full on an off-season Tuesday/Wednesday night stay.
