ABOUT PRINCE RUPERT RV CAMPGROUND: Prince Rupert is in northern coastal British Columbia in Canada. There is one main road that leads to the City from the east, and the ferry terminal brings people in from the Ocean side. The City is growing in population as the Port expands. They call Prince Rupert the gateway to the wild northern BC.
The ferry trip from Port Hardy in northern Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert takes about 17 hours. GET A CABIN – IT’S MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE THAT WAY. The Prince Rupert RV Campground was less than 10 minutes from the ferry terminal, which after a very long day, was quite welcome. We arrived at the campground at 12:20 a.m. (about an hour or so late due to a delay on the ferry).
The campground is nothing to jump up and down about but it is very, very convenient, both to the main section of Prince Rupert, and to the ferry. (Prince Rupert is known as the Halibut Capital of the World. There is a wonderful fresh fish market in town, Dolly’s Fish Market. They also serve lunch and dinner.) The campground was not that full, and a lot of the camping vehicles that were there were older and possibly full-timers or seasonals. The campground was surrounded by bushes and trees, but there was very little greenery between campsites, which were basically lined up in rows throughout the property. It was your typical older private campground, and that was okay since this was a stopover of 3 nights after the ferry ride. At least five other campers were staying here also, after arriving on the same ferry. It was the only game in town. Our campsite was a bit muddy; there had been lots of rain. Our entire row (sites 40 through 64) consisted of 13 double sites all fairly close to each other – a strip of dirt, long and narrow, which was meant for two campers/RVs/trailers, one at each end, and both barely fit on the site. We had site #41 with full hook-ups.
The campground offered 77 sites with power, water, and sewer hook-ups, 14 sites with electric and water hook-ups only, 21 RV/trailer sites with no hook-ups, and 6 tenting sites. There was a dump station, a store, an office, overflow parking for all the vehicles that would not fit on the sites, a laundry facility, restrooms, trash receptacles, and a shower facility. Check-in time was 2 p.m Check-out time was 11 a.m. $50 per night plus fees and tax AND an additional $5 per night for the tow car (Canadian currency). We would return because of the proximity to the ferry terminal.
