Painted Rock Petroglyph Campground, Gila Bend, AZ

ABOUT PAINTED ROCK PETROGLYPH CAMPGROUND: This was a great campground; we loved it. We’d never been here before. The campground and Petroglyph Site were located about halfway between the Phoenix area and Yuma, AZ. The Painted Rock Petroglyph Site is near the entrance to this campground. Originally a State Park, it’s all run now by the BLM. There are several small rocky hills, two of which have a fence around them. There are a lot of petroglyphs here.

There are 60 campsites, all space reasonably apart from each other with some a good distance from their neighbors. Each site comes with a picnic table and a fire ring. There are trash receptacles and a vault toilet. The campground roads are gravel and well maintained. The sites are also well taken care of. There are no hook-ups, no dump station, and no place to get fresh water, so arrive prepared. Dumping, propane, and water are available in Gila Bend at the Pilot and Love’s gas stations. Sites are $8 per night (or $4 with the Federal Senior Pass). There is a campground host on duty.

We had site #38. It was great. There are other campsites equally good. Some campsites were huge; most were pull-through; there was ample space for an RV, tow car, and tent. We would definitely stay here again. Beginning February 1, 2022 sites that are marked as reservable campsites must be reserved through reserveamerica.com. All others will be first come, first served. They are open year round.
