North Sydney, Cabot Trail KOA, New Harris, NS

ABOUT NORTH SYDNEY/CABOT TRAIL KOA CAMPGROUND: This is a good KOA campground in a perfect location to stay before getting on & after getting off the ferry to Newfoundland. It’s only about 20 minutes from the ferry terminal to the KOA. We stayed here twice in 2019 and will stay here twice again this year. The campground opened May 15 and will close October 15 (in 2023). There aren’t many campgrounds in Nova Scotia that are opened this early or stay open this late in the year. Luckily it is convenient and a great place for a stopover. We’ll be staying a week in October of this year as an access point to Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail.

The three times we’ve been here we were assigned an excellent campsite, site #5/6, with a good view of the Lake and the bridge that crosses over it. It is a pull-through campsite (easy in, easy out) with full hook-ups (30 amp), located on a grassy hill. The campsites on this hill are lined up to take advantage of the view. We are KOA members. Checking in and making reservations have been easy at their campgrounds, and as a member we get 10% off each stay. We paid $56.91 (Canadian currency which is $43.00 U.S.) and that’s fairly cheap for a KOA.

Amenities here include: full hook-ups, washrooms, laundry, playground, mini-golf, horseshoe pit, dump station, a boat ramp, recreation hall, a dog park, an office/store, and trash receptacles. There are 46 (30 amp) back-in sites; 27 (30 amp) pull-through sites; 7 (50 amp) back-in sites; 5 (50 amp) pull-through sites; 32 (15 amp) back-in sites for tents or camper vans; 12 tent sites (no hook-ups); and 4 cabins. Check-in time is 12 noon. Check-out time is 11 a.m.
