ABOUT LONG POINT STATE PARK: The park was established by New York State in 1913 as part of the St. Lawrence Reservation. Long Point State Park – Thousand Islands – is a 23-acre state park situated on a long, narrow peninsula of land, the northeast tip of Point Peninsula, facing Chaumont Bay on Lake Ontario, in an area nicknamed, “The Golden Crescent”. The park is in a remote area offering an uncongested, relaxing camping experience. Long Point is small and almost completely surrounded by water offering great views from all over the park. The sites in the park are fairly open, grass covered with scattered trees throughout the park. The closest towns to Long Point State Park are Cape Vincent or Chaumont, each approximately 15 minutes away. The bay provides a protected harbor for boats, and Lake Ontario offers excellent boating & fishing opportunities. Excellent birding!
There are 78 campsites; 30 offer electric hook-ups. The camping area for electric hook-ups has less shade (more open without trees) and the space between campsites is smaller.
Some of the campsites without hook-ups are fairly large, and some of these sites are nicely shaded. Almost all sites have a water view and many have water access. Some are also water-accessible for launching a kayak or canoe. Our favorite campsites are: #1 (site 40), #2 (site 32), #3 (tie – either site 080 or site 36), and #4 (site 081). See campground map for an explanation of each of these campsite’s pros & cons.
