ABOUT KILLENS POND STATE PARK: Killens Pond State Park is located 3 miles south of Felton, Delaware and 1 mile east of DE Route-13. The Park is large and it borders Route 13, Killens Pond Road, and Paradise Alley Road. The main entrance for the Park and the Park Office are off Killens Pond Road; the campground office and store are off Paradise Alley Road. Amenities of the Park include a Nature Center, Water Park, a Sports Complex for special events, parking, restrooms, a playground, picnicking, the campground, 6 loops for RV/Trailer camping, a loop of camping cabins, a loop for tenters, boat ramps & docks, picnic pavilions for large groups, primitive youth camping, food concession in season, scenic overlooks, hiking trails, baseball fields, disc golf, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, fishing, an amphitheater with fire pit, boat rentals, canoe/kayaking trail, showers/bath house, dump station, recycling center, and a concert pavilion. There is a bicycle trail, a cross country course, two pondside nature trails, a life course, and a combination of the trails go all around the pond.
NOTE: This campground is exactly halfway between Bombay Hook and Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuges – 20 miles to each Refuge from the campground.
The campground is heavily tree’d and there is very little shade at any RV or tent campsites. The RV/Trailer loops include electric & water hook-ups. Loops A thru F (the RV/Trailer loops) have 59 campsites. All of these sites are close to their neighboring campsites and each of these loops backs up on the other loops. Some campsites are short and would only handle a Van or Truck Camper. Therefore, if we are making an advance reservation, we should choose one of the following: Loop B – #4 & 5; Loop C – #4; Loop E – #4; and nothing in Loops A, D, & F. Site 5 in Loop B is probably the best campsite; site 4 in Loop B is probably the second best campsite.
The campground is open all year, but only limited sites are available from December 1 thru March 31. Check-in time is after 1 p.m. Check-out time is before 12 noon. We paid $93.00 for four nights, which included a senior discount. Park Office: (302) 284-4526. For toll free reservations call 1-877-98-2757. Website: www.destateparks.com.
