ABOUT JUAN DE FUCA PROVINCIAL PARK, CHINA BEACH CAMPGROUND: Juan de Fuca Provincial Park runs from the unincorporated city of Jordan River to the city of Port Renfrew along the west coast of Vancouver Island, bordering the Pacific Ocean. The area is heavily forested with old growth trees that cover the hills that end at the Ocean. It is incredibly beautiful. China Beach Day Use Area is where the Juan de Fuca hiking trail begins, a 47-km trail that is a popular attraction in the area. Along the trail there are primitive campgrounds where hikers can spend the night. There is no vehicle access of these campsites. China Beach is a wonderful campground where every campsite is surrounded by amazing trees. The area contains black bears, deer, and elk. We would definitely stay here again.
There is no internet/phone signal here. Therefore I can only talk about what we experienced here or include the small amount of information offered in a Provincial Park brochure. There are 79 campsites offering no hook-ups. Potable water is available at spigots throughout the Park. There is no dump station. You can dump and get fresh water at French Beach Provincial Park if necessary, about 10 minutes south of China Beach. The campsites are surrounded with large trees and offer some privacy. Most sites are not too close together. Some campsites are not level and some are too short for us.
We had campsite #24, in our opinion the best campsite in the Park. It fit our RV and tow car easily and we still had room to put up the screened tent. We could barely see any people camping near us. This campsite is by far the site we’d choose again. Other possibilities include sites #66, 18, 2, 11, and 25, but none of them were as long or as private as #24. We stayed 7 nights and it cost $158.90 Canadian currency. Check-in time was 1 p.m. Check-out time was 11 a.m. For electricity, generator hours were 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.
China Beach Campground is adjacent to Highway 14, one kilometer east of the China Beach day-use area and 35 kilometers west of Sooke. Phone number 1-587-372-0427. Website https://bcparks.ca/.
