ABOUT BUFFALO KOA JOURNEY CAMPGROUND: Buffalo, Wyoming is a small town in mid-north Wyoming. In Buffalo, “You’re In Longmire Country”. This campground was a convenient stopover for one night between Montana and South Dakota. It was a “Journey” campground, KOA’s lower-level campgrounds that are cheaper than the Holiday-level campsites and they don’t offer as many amenities (which we wouldn’t use anyway). We liked this campground. The predictable good customer service and well-maintained grounds still exist, but it was easier for us to get a reservation and cheaper. When we arrived, we were told that since they weren’t busy and had extra pull-through campsites, they were putting us in one of those more expensive sites at no extra charge.
We had site #42 with full hook-ups, shade from beautiful old White Birch trees, a pull-through site and we didn’t have to disconnect the Honda from the RV. Tomorrow we can just get up and go after packing up.
The Buffalo campground offered 97 campsites for vehicle camping, 7 cabins, and 7 tent sites (and there was a camping area with water – Clear Creek and French Creek – access and beaches. 27 of the above 97 vehicle campsites were in this Creek camping area). This is compared to the 184 campsites in last night’s (Billings) KOA.
Other amenities included a dog park, parking, water spigots and charging stations, trash, recycle, launderette, bath house, restrooms, office/store, rec room, small playground, camping kitchen, and volleyball court. We would stay here again for a one-night layover.
Check-in time was 2 p.m. Check-out time was 11 a.m. We paid $55.88 for one night.
