Boice Cope Park, Langlois, OR

ABOUT BOICE COPE PARK: We stayed at this great campground in 2017. We knew we’d be back. It is located west of Highway 101 above Port Orford in the town of Langlois. Floras Lake is world renowned as a premier wind sport destination. Windsurfing & kiteboarding are popular in the right conditions. This Park is part of Curry County. It is surrounded by large trees with lake and ocean views through the trees. There is water access and there are hiking trails. It’s a good place to ride bikes. It’s a small campground, and last time we were here it was quiet. This time it was quiet except for a little noise from a neighboring campsite. There is a dump station (YAAA! Many places we’ve stayed so far in Oregon have not had dump stations or the dump station they had was not operational.) Most of the RV sites also offer electrical and water hook-ups. There is a laundry room with two washers and two dryers.

Rates are $30 per day for water & electric hook-ups and $28 per day for no hook-ups. The best sites are 11 and 12 (with hook-ups) and 21 and 22 (without hook-ups). We stayed both times in site #11. We will come back here again. It is a much better campground than any of the others around here. You can make reservations, but we did first-come, first-served both times we were here.

There are additional BLM and Forest Service campgrounds nearby. We checked them out to see if we might want to stay next time.

BLM CAMPGROUNDS: Edson Creek and the Sixes.

Four miles in from US-101 on Sixes River Rd. in we reached the first campground, Edson Creek, and it was closed for the winter season, opening in May. It was a nice campground and we wold stay here if we were here during the summer.

The second campground was 7 more miles along the road which was much more narrow and treacherous. Sixes Campground was closed for the season, also opening in May, and we couldn’t see past the gate that was locked. The roads weren’t good for the RV and we did not see the campground because it was closed. We wouldn’t stay here because it is not accessible by the RV.

NATIONAL FOREST SERVICE CAMPGROUNDS: Sunshine Bar & Butler Bar.

The NFS campgrounds were on Elk River Rd which was managed by the forest service, it was a well-maintained, paved road winding through beautiful forest with the Elk River running along side it. At 19 miles, we reached Sunshine Bar Campground. It was great and we seriously considered coming back with the RV. But even though the road was well-maintained, there were places where it wasn’t wide enough for two large vehicles and without a turnout, it could cause problems. Sadly, we can’t stay here. Out of several good sites, two were beautiful, level, and had river views. Three more miles down the road we reached Butler Bar Campground. This one was not as nice as Sunshine. The sites were not as well-maintained, smaller, and some were not level. Again, the road is not wide enough to take the RV here.
