ABOUT BALD EAGLE STATE PARK: Located in Centre County, Pennsylvania between Milesburg & Lock Haven along PA-150, Bald Eagle State Park is 5,900 acres and provides opportunities for camping, hiking, bicycling, boating, fishing, swimming, wildlife watching, picnicking, hunting, and winter sports such as sledding, tobogganing, ice skating, and ice fishing. Camping facilities include Russell P. Letterman Campground with 119 campsites in two loops, some with full hook-ups. Modern restrooms with shower facilities are offered. Electric hook-ups of 30 amps are available at some sites, and some sites offer 50-amp hook-ups; the remaining campsites have no hook-ups. Water is available at several stations; there is a dump station. There are also two yurts, three camping cottages, and one deluxe camping cottage that is handicapped accessible. The additional Rustic campground loop offers 35 walk-in sites for tents and 35 sites that accommodate camping vehicles. Drinking water is available along the campground road. Restrooms have vault toilets and a sink with running water; there is a dump station.

There is a large marina with boat storage one mile from the Letterman Campground. The Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir is a 1,730-acre lake, nearly eight miles long with 23 miles of shoreline and a 1,200-foot-long sand and turf beach that has a children’s playground. There are motorized and non-motorized boat launches. There are boat rentals and a fishing pier.

Our favorite campsites were: Sycamore loop (allows pets) – site 085 with electric hook-ups, site 080 without hook-ups, and site 082 with electric hook-ups; Oak loop (no pets allowed) – site 025 with 50 amp electric, site 008 with 30 amp electric, and site 23 with 50 amp electric; Rustic loop – site 054 with no hook-ups.

Check-in time is after 3:00 p.m. Campsites must be vacated by 3:00 p.m. Quiet hours are 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. The State Park is open year-round for use of recreational facilities. Russell P. Letterman Campground opens the second Friday of April and closes in mid-December. The Rustic loop opens the first Friday in May and closes the third Sunday in October.
