ABOUT ALFRED A. LOEB STATE PARK: We had never stayed at this campground before. We did drive through in 2017 and vowed to come back. This is a beautiful place with lots of old Myrtle trees along the Chetco River. We would definitely come back again.
There are 53 campsites. Two are for campground hosts. Three are cabins, one is handicapped accessible RV, and four are tent sites. The remaining 43 sites are electric and water hook-ups. There is no dump station. (Free dumping is available at any Oregon campground that offers a station if you have a receipt/tag to show you’re staying at another campground. AND free dump stations are sometimes available at rest stops along the 101 – there is one across from Harris Beach State Park.) The campsites were very well maintained and everything in the Park was extremely clean. Some of the campsites were either too short for us, or just able to fit both the RV and the Honda. Most sites were level. The cost was $33 per night for an RV site for out of towners. We had site #27 overlooking the River. It was a great campsite.
The campground offers, in addition to the hook-ups, picnic tables and fire rings at each site, parking, paved campground roads, showers, restrooms, vault toilets, a boat launch, hiking trails, park office, firewood, horseshoes, day use picnic area, trash and recycling. Check-in is after 4 p.m. Check-out is before 1 p.m. (We arrived hours earlier and it was fine, but we were off-season and the campground was almost empty.) It was first-come, first-served and we paid at an iron ranger. Best campsites are 25, 26, 27, 28, and 39, but there were others that were good, too.
