LAST DAY IN MAINE FOR A WHILE?
Day 10 – Tomorrow we’re gonna attempt to cross over to Canada, and be there for the summer. Hopefully. We had wanted to do this trip last year but hadn’t researched properly, so we found at the last minute we didn’t plan well for the border crossing requirements. There’s a limit to what can be brought with you into Canada. This year we are more prepared. We have the proper paperwork for the kitties (and the RV is not stocked full of beer & wine, LOL). Still, it is a the whim of whomever you get to check you out when you reach Customs (from what we’ve heard) and you need to be honest in what you claim. They have on occasion searched vehicles to the point of unloading everything (so we’ve been told). We have nothing to hide, but it would be quite disheartening to see the hours of hard work packing the RV & car to the hilt, and then have to do it all over again, especially since many items are packed in the order in which they will be used. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
And Karen, it’s Monday, do we need to cross our fingers for you? Good luck. Thinking of you.
At 7:15 a.m. this morning, the girls finally won the battle & forced Rob out of bed. It was 42 degrees outside and sunny. We’ve noticed that it gets light earlier here & dark later here. We’ll be even farther north soon. We wonder if in summer, it will be light almost 24 hours a day like in Alaska? Newfoundland & Labrador are way up north, also. Will the kitties be up wanting their breakfast at 2 a.m.? Should be interesting for all.
Rob took his morning constitutional on the cliff’s edge & was visited by the female Loon again. The lobster boats have started going out with their traps. Activity is picking up just a little. Still no one on the road yet. We did hear from friends last night that they will be coming up in a couple of weeks, therefore two of the cottages here will be occupied soon. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside again & read our books.
After lunch Rob checked the air pressure in all the tires & all the fluids in preparation for leaving tomorrow. We sat outside again for a while; the sun was so warm and the water was really pretty. Then we went in to Lubec to the Post Office – trying to get everything mailed from the U.S. before we leave. We’ll need Canadian stamps soon (we hope). And Canadian currency, too. Lubec was even quieter than on Saturday. Rob stopped again at the hardware store. The high today was 59 degrees, sunny with a little breeze.
