Day 55 – It was 33 degrees this morning & sunny. We both slept well last night. We tend to do better when it’s cold. When it’s hot & humid, neither of us sleep well. The kitties seem to sleep well not matter what the conditions are.
It warmed up quickly & by 11 a.m. we were able to go out to the screened tent & enjoy. After lunch Rob went kayaking on the Lake. My knee was bothering me today, so I stayed off it. Overall, it’s doing much better.

We spent most of the afternoon in the screened tent – a gorgeous day, 61 degrees & sunny. We made a Thai Carrot Ginger Soup for dinner; YUMMY! Tomorrow we have to leave here and go south farther into the Okefenokee Swamp for a week. Warning – in 2017 when we went to the next campground, we had no cell signal & no internet. This could easily happen again. If we don’t post anything, please assume that is the problem, not that we’ve been eaten by alligators! Grin.
Laura S. Check in time is 1 p.m.; check out time is 12 noon. Quiet time is 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. From the Park brochure, 2017: “Located near the northern edge of the mysterious Okefenokee Swamp, this Park is home to many fascinating creatures & plants, including alligators. Walking along the lake shore & nature trail, visitors may see carnivorous pitcher plants, the shy gopher tortoise, numerous oak varieties, saw palmettos, yellow-shafted flickers, warblers, owls & great blue herons. The Park’s lake offers great opportunities for boating & fishing. The Park’s championship 18-hole golf course features a club house, golf pro, unlimited weekday play & senior citizen discounts. This is one of the few State Parks named after a woman & its name is richly deserved. Laura Walker was a Georgia writer, teacher, civic leader, and naturalist who was a great lover of trees & worked for their preservation.” We had never been to this campground before. We loved it & consider it to be in our top ten campgrounds. Immaculately cleaned, the Park was situated on a beautiful Lake and the Rangers & the camp hosts were extremely nice & accomodating. There were a total of 44 tent & trailer/RV sites with electrical & water hook-ups. There was a dump station on site. The campsites were not close together & were not lined up in a row, allowing privacy at almost every site. Four excellent campsites were right on the water. Several behind them offered great views. The golf course, group camping facilities, cabins, playgrounds, and boat launching areas were separate from one another. We stayed for five nights, all of them quiet & peaceful. We paid $168.50 for 5 nights ($33.70 per night) which included the $5 GA State Park entry fee that everyone pays when entering a Georgia State Park. We will definitely come back here again many times.
