Oceanside RV Park, Port au Choix, NL

ABOUT OCEANSIDE RV PARK: This Park is owned and operated by the United Towns Lions Club of Port au Choix. We’ve camped here four times, twice in 2019 and twice in 2023. There are very few campgrounds along the coast above Gros Morne National Park. This Park is in a perfect location between the Deer Lake campgrounds and the campgrounds in the Roddickton/Bide Arm and Pistolet Provincial Park areas.

Oceanside RV Park is just before the town of Port au Choix off of Route 430-28. Twenty-two sites with water and electric hook-ups are located in a large gravel lot behind the Lion’s Club building on the edge of the ocean. (We did not have to boil the water.) In addition to the campsites with hook-ups, beyond them is an area for campers who don’t want the hook-ups, and there is a small Van/tent camping area without hook-ups, also. In case the campground is full, there is overflow parking in front of the Lions Club building. Most people don’t stay longer than a night or two. Reservations are recommended. There is a dumping station. Restrooms and shower facilities are in the Lions Club building. There is an internet/phone connection. We will definitely stay here again (and again).

Check out time is 11 a.m. There is no official check in time. You must pay in CASH; $35 (Canadian currency) per night in 2023. Camping season was May 1 to September 15, 2023. We like Site #22 the best since it is farther away from the restrooms, therefore from most of the other campers. NOTE: There is a Caribou herd nearby. We have seen them on several occasions (particularly around 3:30 or 4 p.m.) on the road that travels to the Point Riche lighthouse (Point Riche Road or Farwell’s Drive). We’ve seen beautiful Foxes, too. The campground host told Rob that you can see Moose around dusk near the trees across from the Visitor’s Center by the same road. Also, in town you might be able to get fresh frozen local Shrimp at the French Rooms Cultural Center. And there is an excellent Bakery in town, open on Saturday’s only, the big red house on the main road (with a bakery sign). The Cinnamon Sticky Buns and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Sticks are great! The fresh Scallops, Shrimp, and Cod are very good at local restaurants.
