ABOUT GATEWAY TO THE NORTH RV PARK: Gateway to the North RV Park is situated by the pretty Humber River, and we heard the calls of Loons daily. The campground is located near the decent-sized town of Deer Lake and close to Exit 16 of the Trans Canada Highway. The Newfoundland Insectarium & Butterfly Garden is within walking distance from the Park. The Deer Lake Airport is also nearby and aircraft fly over the campground, (but it’s not too bad since this isn’t a really busy airport.) Because of its location right off Route 430, the main road that leads to and from the Northern Peninsula, there can also be noise from traffic. The campground can be a busy place. But it’s a great place for a one or two-night stopover. This was our third visit, and we would stay here again.
The campground is clean and the grounds are well maintained. Very large RVs can fit in some of the campsites. The campground is fairly open and the campsites are lined up in rows. There are 80 campsites, and a few of them are occupied by seasonal campers. The campsites offer full hook-ups including sewer. The travel guide says they have a laundry facility; we haven’t seen one. There was an adequate internet and phone signal. In 2023 we paid $50 per night (Canadian currency). Their season ran from June 1 to September 12 in 2023. There aren’t any set times for checking in and checking out.
Gateway to the North RV Park: The address is 1 Route 430, Deer Lake NL A8A 2V1. The directions are – take the TCH to Exit 16, head towards the Northern Peninsula, not Deer Lake.
