Long Beach Golf Course Campground, Tofino, BC

ABOUT LONG BEACH GOLF COURSE AND CAMPGROUND: There are many campgrounds in the Tofino and Ucluelet area of Vancouver Island. We looked at several and none of them were great. The ones we saw stuffed as many campsites into as little space as possible – there was after all, not that much room in these smallish towns, and most people would be coming here to visit Pacific Rim National Park, which has its own campgrounds stuffed to the max with campsites. That said, the campsites at Long Beach Golf Course at least weren’t as crowded and as close together as some we saw.

We had Site #2. It was near the beginning of the campground. Every vehicle that came and went to and from the campground had to pass right by our site. There were no hook-ups in the main campground. There were just six sites in an open area with no privacy outside the main campground that had full hook-ups. (There were supposedly more sites with hook-ups, but we never saw them.) Restrooms and showers were located at the campground office along with the trash receptacles. The campground office was located just beyond the entrance to the campground, therefore people were constantly walking or driving by our site to go to the restroom or wait in a line for a chance at the showers. Drinking water could be gotten from two sinks located just outside campsites #1 and #2. Convenient for us to be so close for our own water, but there was a constant stream of people coming to the sinks to wash their dishes, get water to bring back to their campsites, or even to wash their clothes and brush their teeth. It would’ve been worse but we had a campsite that was long and narrow, allowing us to drive front-in and somewhat disappear into the woods. This is what saved us from a possibly lousy time. There were other campsites within the campground that were large enough for us and in a better location. But we wouldn’t have been so close to the drinking water.

Long Beach Campground had 80 campsites. There was no dump station. Dumping was available at the Co-op Gas Station in Tofino for a fee. The campground was situated near an airport. Small airplanes flew over several times daily. The golf course was nearby. There was also a small, excellent cafe’, Tacofino, with great food within walking distance. Check in time was 1 p.m. Check out time was 11 a.m. Generator hours were from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Open all year. The cost was $377.75 (Canadian currency) for 7 nights. Most campgrounds in Tofino were more expensive than this.
