Echoes of the Sea, Copalis Beach, WA

ABOUT ECHOES OF THE SEA: This peninsula in western Washington had a huge amount of campgrounds & RV parks. We had never been to this area before. When looking for reservations online, many of the parks were resorts with swimming pools, organized games & activities, sports, and much more than we needed. Others were already fully booked or seemed junky. Echoes of the Sea had a beautiful website and they seemed to be a small, quiet place (plus they had vacancies). When we drove to the campground and went to check in, we found out we were at the wrong place, our campground was across the street. Driving out of the wrong campground, we wished we’d known about it; we would’ve stayed there. Driftwood RV Resort, 3209 State Road 109, Copalis Beach, WA; $55 per night; full hook-ups; phone (360) 940-7608. They were full or almost full every night. The Park we’d reserved was across the street, which had a sign small, and it wasn’t even noticeable compared to Driftwood. Now, that is quiet and unpretentious.

Echoes of the Sea consisted of a small motel with 8 rooms and a small home/office where the owners lived. In the back, behind the buildings was a small RV park. It was a work in progress. The owners bought the motel and RV park two years ago. It appeared from the outside that the buildings had been updated, but the park was being worked on. The owners said the inside of the office/home was still being renovated. We drove around to the back and parked in our site #01, with electric & water hook-ups. There was a dump station. The grounds needed work, but the place had potential. Every day that wasn’t raining (which was only a few), contractors were there working. We stayed one week. We would stay here again; we’d like to see the place when it’s done. But we also wouldn’t mind staying in Driftwood, across the street.

There were 10 RV sites (most were too small for us but that could change – they elongated two of them just while we were here). There was a separate area beyond the row of RV campsites that was a circle of 7 sites for tents. The property was surrounded by mature trees and bushes. Some of the campsites were on gravel, some were on grass. There were lots of mud and puddles, due to the heavy rains. Some of the campsites had firepits, some had picnic tables. There were restrooms and trash including recycle. There were two other campers – a small trailer and a medium trailer – that appeared to be here for a longer stay; one other truck camper came in for one night. It was quiet except for construction days. The owners were very nice. $45 per night. Check-in was 2 p.m. Check-out was noon.
