ABOUT QUOSATANA NATIONAL FOREST SERVICE CAMPGROUND: We stayed at Quosatana for 5 days in 2017 and loved it. We looked forward to camping here again and weren’t disappointed. And we would definitely come back again.
There are 43 campsites total in two loops, some sites in complete sun & some completely shaded but all were nicely spaced from each other. Some campsites had views through the trees of the River. The campground is located 14 miles east of Gold Beach, so when it’s buried in fog by the Ocean, it can be full sun here, AND totally away from the hustle & bustle of anything. Located on the wonderfully scenic Rogue River off a winding road, not that many cars go by here. All sites are black-top with picnic table and fire ring at each. No hook-ups, you can get water at spigots throughout the campground & there is a dump station. NOTE: On our second visit the dump station was out of order.
Our first visit no more than three campers other than the campground host and us were here. This visit we were the only campers here other than the campground host. Prime fishing location; chinook & coho salmon are caught here, and fishing season for King Salmon begins April 1. According to the forest ranger in town, the campground will fill up in April and again for the summer. It is very popular at those times, but wonderfully quiet other times of the year. Open all year.
You are surrounded by forests and cliffs. The campground is immaculately clean. Sites are separated by trees and/or thick bushes which are full of very happy birds. There are resident wild turkeys & lots of deer. Great big rigs wouldn’t fit here; some sites can hold probably a 35-foot trailer with a truck. We fit just fine. Very quiet, surrounded by nature, just wonderful. We had site #40 on our first visit (this site was closed due to a fallen tree on our second visit). We stayed in site #43 the second time around. The best sites for us are: 25, 43, 40, and 42 – all with sun. If the weather is hot and we want shade, the best sites would be: 31, 33, 9, and 12. The price – $20 per night or $10 per night with the National Parks senior pass – first come first served, no reservations.
Quosatana National Forest Service Campground: 14 miles east of Gold Beach, OR and 19 miles west of Agness, OR. Jerry’s Flat Road out of Gold Beach on the Rogue River. NOTE: GPS directs you to Forest Service Headquarters in Gold Beach instead of the campground. Phone (541) 247-3600.
