Old Post Road Park Army Corps of Engineers Campground, Russellville, AR

ABOUT OLD POST ROAD PARK – ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS CAMPGROUND: We stayed at this campground on one other occasion and we really liked it. This visit was even better. There were no brochures & information about the campground available. We were instructed by the campground host to drive around the campground, pick a site that was not occupied, and look for its availability on Recreation.gov. Once booked, we could occupy the campsite; the campground host would see our reservation online and know what we were doing.

This visit was during the Thanksgiving four-day weekend (on Friday & Saturday nights). The campground was more than ½ full with more people coming in right behind us. We were very lucky to get a great campsite, one we would try to get again, #24, overlooking the Arkansas River. From what we could tell, all campsites come with water and electricity, a picnic table and a fire ring. Sites are either wooded to a certain extent or overlooking the river. There is a dump station. It appeared that we could fit into almost all the sites. There is a decent distance between most sites. We paid $20 per night – could’ve paid $10 per night if we’d remembered to use our senior pass, duh! We would repeat Site #24 next time, followed by #38 and #22 and really, almost any other site. The campground was about 30 minutes from Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge. And just staying around the campground and watching the barges go by on the River and all the birds flying around was quite pleasant in itself.

We did not get information on the campground, but it is located across the river from Dardanelle and below Russellville, Arkansas. Reservations can be made by contacting www.recreation.gov.
