ABOUT AROOSTOOK STATE PARK: Located 5 miles south of Presque Isle off US Route 1, Aroostook State Park is Maine’s first State Park. In 1938, interested citizens of Presque Isle donated 100 acres of land to the State. In 1939, the dream of creating the State’s first State Park became a reality. Subsequent donations increased the Park to its present size of over 900 acres. Encompassing Quaggy Jo Mountain’s peaks (Quaggy Jo is the shortened form of its Indian name, “Qua Qua Jo” which translates to “twin peaked”), and fronting Echo Lake, the Park provides year-round recreational opportunities. There are extensive hiking & cross-country ski trails. Large brook trout can be found in spring-fed Echo Lake.

Aroostook State Park offers 30 wooded sites. Recently 5 of those sites were converted to campsites with electricity, otherwise there are no hook-ups. There is also a small, walk-in Group Site. The campsites are on the small side, but a 30 ft RV fits in just right. There is a campground host, a kitchen shelter, showers, restrooms, a playground, and drinking water (you can fill an RV water tank from the spigot at the shower facility before setting up camp). There are excellent Day Use facilities. The handicapped-accessible picnic area provides tables, charcoal grills, a swimming area & changing facilities. The boating area offers ample space for parking, launching and docking. Canoes & kayaks can be rented at the control station; paddles & life jackets are included. It’s easy to launch a kayak.

$32.25/night.
