Tuesday August 26 – Thursday Sept. 4, 2025

The past 10 days have been very busy! We finished up the foundation and grading and made a good start on raising the timberframe.

On Tuesday August 26, Rob finished up a few things with the rear porch deck and did some general cleanup.

On Thursday August 28, Rob worked on his own again building the front porch deck.

Friday August 29 was a monentous day! Rob, Wayne and Channon worked on raising the first timbers and wall framing. We also discovered a mistake in one of the timber posts that needed to be addressed.

Saturday August 30, we took the day off because it was raining cats and dogs. Rob pulled together a few details for Habitat Post and Beam so they could address the problem we found on Friday.

On Sunday Augsut 31, Rob did a full inventory of everything that we picked up in MA on the 18th to make sure that there were no further issues. Habitat Post and Beam responded very quickly, even though it was the middle of the Labor Day weekend and promised to have replacement parts on site by Wednesday. Amazing!!

On Monday September 1 (Labor Day), Rob finished up the front porch and he, Wayne, Channon, Jesse and Cody continued raising the timberframe.

On Tuesday September 2, there was a lot of activity! Teresa and Paul finished up the final grading around the cottage and the full framing crew was back and continuing to raise the timberframe. We got as far as we could ahead of the delivery of new timbers on Wednesday. At the end of the day we found that one post was 1 inch out of place and the beam it supports wouldn’t fit. There was a lot of head scratching and calls to “Cut the Beam!”, but Wayne figured out the problem. We moved the post and everything fit again. We didn’t have to cut the beam. It has been amazing how well the kit has gone together. When we were an inch off, we knew something had to be wrong! Thanks Wayne!

On Wednesday September 3, Rob worked alone on modifying some parts supplied in the kit so we can have LED strip lights highlighting the beautiful Douglas Fir beams. Huckle, the president of Habitat Post and Beam, arrived at 11am with replacement timbers along with a few other items. Huckle had cut his own vacation short to arrange the manufacturing of new timbers and to come and deliver them personally. A drive of over 400 miles one way! Thank you Huckle and the team at Habitat Post and Beam.

On Thursday September 4, Rob continued working on the modifications for LED lighting.

There is still plenty of activity in the harbor.
