We went home to NY and spent two weeks taking care of some business. The cats were very excited to be home. What they didn’t realize was that one of the things on the agenda at home was for them to have a visit with the vet!

It was nice to take a break from the cottage construction and get back to our house in NY. When we arrive at home in the RV, Rob always carries the cats one by one from the RV to the house. They get so excited to be home!

We had a bunch of appointments and had some car trouble right before we were scheduled to return to Maine. It was busy and stressful but we got everything done and hit the road on schedule on Sunday August 3.

Getting back to Maine always makes us feel calm and happy. When we cross the border into Maine and eventually make the turn from the busy mid-coast region to the quieter downeast region, we breathe a sigh of relief!

When we got back to the land we were excited to see that progress had been made and that work was ongoing. The garage frostwall was about to be poured and the first stages of the subfloor system for the cottage were being worked on. Also, the rock retaining wall had been completed.

Over the next couple of days, Rob, Wayne, Jesse, Channon and Cody worked hard on the cottage. We had multiple deliveries from the lumber yard and the truss manufacturer, sometimes creating a traffic jam in our driveway. The concrete contractor poured the garage frostwall and stripped the forms. We are now ready to finish up the garage slab after some more excavation work next week. That will be it for the foundation.

On August 7, we only got in a half day of work due to a power outage. Rob took advantage of the downtime to schedule some electrical work with our electrical contractor, Dane. On August 8, Rob and Wayne were making good progress on cutting columns to support the floor system. Rob got his finger caught in the sawzall and had to go to the local medical clinic in Lubec. Fortunately, it was a relatively minor injury, but he will be losing that fingernail soon! On Saturdy August 9, Rob, Wayne Jesse and Cody finished installing the floor beam. We’ll be installing the floor joists soon.

The Kingfishers are very active in the harbor. Rob saw a Bald Eagle, but wasn’t able to get a picture. There are still toads around as well.

Moving right along, that’s awesome! Rob, hope your finger is okay. Better to lose a fingernail than a finger 😟 but sorry to hear of the injury.

Bravo. So impressed with the high-tech materials employed. Such an evolution.
