Saturday July 5 – Thursday July 17, 2025

The 4th of July holiday weekend killed our momentum a bit, but on Monday July 7, Paul came over to help build up a boulder retaining wall on a steeply sloped section of fill. The boulders we used were all pulled out of the ground when excavating for the foundation. Paul picked up boulders using the excavator and placed them where Rob indicated. It’s not finished yet, but it looks pretty good so far!

On Tuesday and Wednesday July 8-9, Teresa, Paul and Rob worked on placing interior footer drains, sub-slab gravel and insulation in prepartion for the frost wall concrete pour.

On July 10, the concrete contractor let us know that he wouldn’t be able to pour the frost walls until next Wednesday or Thursday July 16 or 17. We were planning on leaving for home on Thursday July 17 for a couple of weeks to take care of some medical appointments. Bummer! Back to the waiting game.

Between July 10 and 15 there wasn’t much activity. Rob got bored waiting and went ahead and built the porch pier forms to be used in a week or two. It was foggy a lot and we did laundry one day.

Rob spoke to the concrete contractor on July 15 to see what the schedule looked like for getting the frost walls poured. The new schedule was to pour the frost walls on Thursday or Friday July 17 or 18 now. Lost another day. Ugh!

On Wednesday July 16 in the afternoon they showed up. Surprise! Dale and crew shuffled their schedule to set the forms while we were still here so that Rob could be around to answer any questions. What a relief! The concrete for the frost walls should be poured on Thursday morning before we leave.

On Thursday July 17 we waited around but the concrete truck was delayed. We decided to go ahead and leave for home around 9:30. Just as we were turning off our dirt road, we passed a concrete truck heading to our land! Good Luck!

We’re thinking of you Cathie. RIP Pete.
