Construction begins!!!
We got a text on June 24 from Wayne (our building contractor) that Teresa (our excavation contractor) would be showing up on Wednesday June 25 to start excavating our foundation hole. YAAY!! Construction can finally begin!

Teresa and her co-worker Paul dove right in and began digging the foundation hole, which has to be four feet deep to get our foundation footings below the frost line. We had some rain over the weekend and some of the excavation was under water by the morning of June 30. Rob went out before the crew arrived and emptied out 40 gallons of water from the hole. By the end of the day June 30 the foundation hole for the cottage was complete. The garage foundation will start after we complete the cottage foundation. The girls were not happy with all the construction noise. Rob supervised the excavation while Vicki reassured the girls in the RV.

On Tuesday July 1, we were waiting for the concrete contractor to arrive on Wednesday and we celebrated our 45th anniversary!! YAAY!!
In the afternoon of Wednesday July 2, a crew of three (Dale, Ryan and Gene) from Richardson Concrete arrived to begin preparation for pouring the foundation footings. They installed the concrete forms and tried to get a concrete delivery to finish the job, but it was too late. They decided to come at 6am on Thursday July 3 to pour the footings and strip out the forms by the end of the day.

Completing the footings just before the Independence Day holiday worked out just perfectly. The concrete can cure and we can do some additional construction planning over the holiday weekend ahead of diving back in on the foundation again on Monday July 7.
On a few of the construction days, Rob was still able to take his morning coffee break at the Man Cliff where he got our first Bald Eagle picture of the year. He had also been concerned about some ferns, planted several years ago, along the trail which had been buried during trail maintenance a month ago. He saw the ferns coming back up, alive and well!

YEA!!!! Congrats- you’re on your way!!!!
So happy it is finally starting
Exciting!!!
Looks like a good construction crew to get things started. A lot accomplished in just a few days!
