Waiting…
We last posted May 23 and we were hoping to begin the foundation excavation soon. Well, nothing has happened in the past month! We are enjoying camping in our “House Building” campsite near the head of our driveway where we will be out of the way when construction begins.

It rained a lot in the past month and has been pretty cold, with lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s and highs rarely above 60. When it wasn’t raining we took a few drives. The restaurants in Lubec were pretty much closed until Memorial Day, so no joy there.

One exciting outing was to the new Lubec laundromat! A new laundromat opened last year in Lubec and we no longer have to drive 45 mins to Machias to do laundry. Yay! We tried it out and it will wok out fine, cutting our commute down to 15 mins.
On one of the beautiful, sunny days, we took a drive to Eastport and stopped off at Betty’s Crab Meat in Pembroke, a place we go every year to get fresh picked crab meat. Time to make Diane’s Crab Imperial recipe. Yum! In Eastport we saw that a few stores were opening up and getting ready for the season. We had lunch at the WaCo Diner and had fried seafood. Another yearly treat.

In June, the weather improved a bit, with more sunny days. Of course, along with June comes the dreaded bugs. Black Flies and Mosquitoes UGH! Vicki hid in the RV to stay away from the bugs while Rob did various maintenance jobs around the land so he will be ready to jump in on construction when it starts. He cut down some fallen trees, rebuilt some of the trails, tore down an old shed, made saw horses and enjoyed his mornings with his coffee at his “Man Cliff”.

We also took a few drives on the best days and participated in the No Kings Protest in Machias. Fun! In June things started picking up in Lubec, more tourists, restaurants opening. Morano’s Pizza! We were also very surprised at the number of people that came to participate in, and spectate at, the Bay of Fundy International Marathon on June 22! More people at one time than we recall ever seeing before in Lubec. The marathon runs from West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Maine to the Head Harbour Lighthouse on Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada and then finishes up back in Maine on Water Street in Lubec.

It’ll be fun to watch the house take shape!
Incredible observers! Thank you for sharing with an apparently blind neighbor.
